Queen’s Women’s Volleyball fall to Western in second half of doubleheader

February 4, 2023 – Queen’s took on the Western Mustangs for the second game of the doubleheader, and fell to Western with a score of 3-1.

The first set started off strong for both teams, each putting up points with incredible plays. While Queen’s made some great blocks, the Mustangs came out on top with a score of 25-17.

The Gaels came back fighting in the second set, with huge kills and skillful saves. For the comeback, Queen’s won the second set with a score of 25-19.

Western bounced back from the loss and capitalized on the rallies. While the Gaels played a great defensive game, the Mustangs won the third set 25-15.

Both teams played intensely in the fourth set, becoming a very close game. Neither getting a big lead on the other, the set ended in a deuce with Queen’s and Mustangs at a 25-25 score. Western finished the set with a score of 27-25, closing out the game at 3-1 for the Mustangs.

Hannah Duchesneau led the game with 12 kills, and Lauren Mellon with 9. Shea Baker was a huge asset during the game, with 22 assists, and Kennedy Millin with 16. Arielle Palermo was a force on the receiving end, with 10 digs during the game.

After the game, Queen’s record landed at 11-5.

The Gaels will return to the court next weekend, taking on the Brock Badgers Friday, Feb. 10 and Saturday, Feb. 11 in St. Catharines, Ont.
