Queen’s Women’s Volleyball beat Nipissing in straight sets

KINGSTON, Ont. (Jan. 27, 2023): Queen’s Women’s Volleyball defeated the Nipissing Lakers with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-16) win Friday at the Athletics and Recreation Centre (ARC).
 
The Gaels kicked off the game with a win in the first set, edging the Lakers by 10 points.

Nipissing came out stronger in the second set, but Queen’s stayed on top with the five-point win.

In the third and final set, Queen’s found themselves trailing the Lakers, but eventually pulled away for a solid win.
 
Hannah Duchesneau led the way for the Gaels with a game-high of 12 kills while also recording nine digs. Shea Baker finished with a game-high of 28 assists for Queen’s, while Mary Stewart topped the stats table with three aces in the game.
 
Speaking with team captain Arielle Palermo after the game, she discussed how the team sticks with their game plan and “plays in the present” by focusing on the task at hand at any given moment. She stressed the importance of mental preparation, as well as physical preparation, to get ready for upcoming games.
 
With the win, the Gaels improved their record to 9-4 on the season. The Gaels will host the Lakers again tomorrow, Saturday January 28 at 4:00 p.m., to close out their weekend doubleheader.
