Parris-Kruger named Canada West Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week

The Regina libero put up some big numbers in the weekend matches vs Winnipeg.

University of Regina libero Sierra Parris-Kruger was named the Canada West Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week for her performance in the Cougars’ weekend home split with Winnipeg.

Parris-Kruger collected 16 digs in Friday’s match, then put up a scintillating 21-dig performance in the U of R’s three-set victory on Saturday. The fourth-year player averaged 6.17 digs per set over the two matches while also successfully receiving 44 of 45 serves directed her way.

“Sierra’s performance this weekend following a challenging couple of weeks demonstrates her grit and leadership on the court,” Cougars head coach Melanie Sanford said. “She stepped up in every way when we needed it the most and she is an extremely deserving recipient of this recognition.”

Parris-Kruger has been brilliant this season as her average of 4.29 digs per set ranks second in Canada West and fourth in all of U SPORTS. She has registered a total of 133 digs through the team’s first eight conference matches.

The Cougars are back in action at home this weekend against the University of Saskatchewan. While the no-spectators policy will still be in effect, both matches will be broadcast live at canadawest.tv.

NOTES: Parris-Kruger’s 21 digs on Saturday set a new career high for a three-set match, breaking her previous mark of 20 … her 21-dig performance is the third most by a Cougar in a three-set match during the rally point era.
