For the first time in the history of the Open Style Championships, the OVA will be utilizing two host cities to deliver OC’s. A big thank you to the City of Waterloo and RIM Park and Mississauga Tourism and Paramount Fine Foods Centre in Mississauga for opening their doors to us in April 2022.

Teams Playing Up an Age Division

The OVA will be opening registration to underaged teams in the MRS (MEMBERSHIP REGISTRATION SYSTEM) system as a waitlist. Registering on the waitlist does not guarantee tournament entry.

The OVA will allow underage teams into an event to fill a division to ensure the tournament runs smoother. i.e. A division of 30 teams registered, so we will allow 2 underage teams to register to make it a 32-team division. The highest ranked team(s) from the lower age division will be invited from the waitlist until the spots are filled. Underage team participation is also dependent on the COVID-19 landscape, capacity size limitations, etc.

Event Registration

Ontario Championships event registration will open on Monday December 13, 2021 and will close for all events on Monday January 24, 2022 at 11:59pm.

Proof of Vaccination Requirements at the Host Cities

Region of Waterloo Public Health Mandate

As of October 31, 2021, and until further notice, the Region of Waterloo Public Health Chief Commissioner & Medical Officer has instructed all sport and recreational facilities to:

  1. Confirm proof of vaccination (or proof of being entitled to a medical exemption) and identification for all patrons, 12 years of age and older, upon entry to the facility when the patron attends the facility as a spectator.
  2. Confirm proof of vaccination (or proof of being entitled to a medical exemption) and identification for any coach, instructor, trainer, sports official (e.g., referee), organizer, or any other individual (e.g., volunteer) 18 years of age and older, participating or associated with the indoor organized sport upon entry to the facility.

At the time of publishing, athletes under 18 years of age are not required to show proof of vaccination to enter RIM Park in Waterloo for Ontario Championships.

Peel Public Health Mandate

As of November 1, 2021, and until further notice, the Peel Public Health Medical Officer of Health has instructed  Owners/Operators of a facility of a business or organization  located in Peel Region with indoor areas used for Organized Sports or recreational fitness activities to:

  1. Prepare, implement, and ensure compliance with a policy requiring each person, age 12 years and older, who attends an indoor area of the facility for the purpose of:
    • actively participating in Organized Sports or recreational fitness activities; or
    • coaching, instructing, caregiving, volunteering, or officiating Organized Sports or recreational fitness activities
  2. Provide, at the point of entry, identification, and proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or a valid medical exemption each time they enter.

This means that anyone attending Ontario Championships in April 2022 at Paramount Fine Foods that is 12 years of age and older, in any capacity (athlete, coach, referee, volunteer, spectator, staff), must show proof of vaccination and identification to enter the facility.

Hotel Booking Process

The OVA will be releasing timelines and information for the hotel booking process early in December. The aim is to have the hotel booking portals open in mid-December for preview with the actual process opening in early January 2022.

We look forward to seeing everyone back on the courts at Ontario Championships 2022! For any questions on the event, please contact Carrie Campbell, Manager of Indoor Programs at ccampbell@ontariovolleyball.org.
