MVB: Huskies Overpower WolfPack in Five Set Thriller

SASKATOON, SK – The Saskatchewan Huskies hosted the Thompson Rivers WolfPack Saturday afternoon for game two of the weekend series. After a narrow loss to the WolfPack in a thrilling five-set game Friday evening, the Huskies reversed the narrative in another exciting game, taking game two 15-6 in set five.

The competitive atmosphere from Friday night’s game continued into Saturday’s game. Huskies Emmett Graham came to play. Two back-to-back attacks and a huge kill would put the Huskies at set point. Lucas Musschoot would end the set with a kill, and ultimately, Saskatchewan would take the set 25-22.

Thompson Rivers would put up a fight, holding the lead in set two from start to finish. Sam Elgert would put the game at set-point for the WolfPack with a service ace after the ball caught the tape, dropping short in the Huskies’ attack line. A big block on the next play would allow TRU to take set two, 25-19.

Serving continued to be a struggle for both teams in the third set. A missed serve into the net by TRU would allow the Huskies to regain the lead, winning the set 25-21.

Thompson Rivers had the Huskies playing keep up in set four, once again holding the lead over Saskatchewan for the duration of the set. A massive swing by Isaiah Mamer would tie the set at 22. The WolfPack, though, would force a fifth set after taking the fourth 25-23.

Saskatchewan would be the first to 8 in the fifth and continue to dominate, at long last taking the set 15-6 and winning the game 3-2.

Huskies Emmett Graham and WolfPack’s Sam Flowerday stood out on the stat sheet for each team, each recording double digits in kills. Graham would claim 13 and Flowerday with 17 on the night.

The win improved the Huskies’ record to 5-1, and the loss put the WolfPack’s record to 3-3 on the season.
