Mount Royal’s Pelland and Sherbrooke’s David named U SPORTS volleyball players of the week

Mount Royal’s Quinn Pelland and Sherbrooke’s Yoan David are named the U SPORTS volleyball players of the week for the period ending February 5, 2023.


Quinn Pelland, Mount Royal
Position: Setter
Hometown: Wanham, Alta.
Year of eligibility: 5th
Academic program: Business Administration and Management, HR

Quinn Pelland of the No. 3-ranked Mount Royal Cougars had a pair of massive performances against the Alberta Pandas last week. Pelland put up 27 assists and 13 digs to lead the Cougars to a 3-0 win and put their winning streak to six. The next evening, the Business major posted an outstanding 50 assists and 19 digs to lead the Cougars to a four-set victory over the Pandas. Pelland now sits third in the conference in assists per set with 9.54.

Mount Royal is back in action this Friday as they are set to host the Brandon Bobcats.


Yoan David, Sherbrooke
Position: Opposite Hitter
Hometown: Sherbrooke, Que.
Year of eligibility: 3rd
Academic program: Information systems

Yoan David led the No. 3-ranked Sherbrooke Vert & Or to a pair of four-set victories last weekend over Laval and Montréal. In Friday’s win over the Rouge et Or, David put up 18.5 points, including 17 kills, and added five digs. On Sunday, the third-year information systems student scored 18 points, including 15 kills and two service aces, and added nine digs as Sherbrooke downed the Carabins and put themselves 2.5 games up on Montréal with three to play.

The Vert & Or host the Dalhousie Tigers for a pair of games on Friday and Saturday. A win in either game would give Sherbrooke first place in the RSEQ and set up a playoff rematch with the Tigers in two weeks.
