Box Score The Nipissing Lakers men’s volleyball team is off to a hot start.
The Lakers came up with a pair of 3-0 wins this weekend, defeating the York Lions both Friday night and Saturday afternoon.
After their sweep Friday, the Lakers took care of business Saturday as well improving to 4-0 on the season.
Nipissing was on their game from the start, going up 8-3 early in the opening set.
They led 16-11 at the technical timeout and managed to keep the Lions at a distance, eventually claiming the opening game 25-21.
After being tied 3-3 early in the second set, the Lakers jumped out to a three-point advantage, 11-8, midway through the set.
From there, they outscored York 14-5 to take the second set decisively and go up 2-0 in the match.
York refused to go away in the third set and forced Nipissing to make some big shots early.
Nipissing was able to go ahead 7-6 and did heat up a little bit – enough at least to take a 16-10 lead at the technical timeout.
The Lakers kept coming and jumped ahead eight points on the Lions who were looking to stay alive in the match.
From there, Nipissing cruised to the 25-18 set win to take the match.
That’s four straight wins and four straight sweeps for the Lakers so far this season, as they are off to a great start.
The Lakers are back in action next weekend, hosting the Ryerson Rams at the RJ Surtees Athletic Centre Friday night and Saturday afternoon.
