MEN’S VOLLEYBALL: LAKERS SIGN WYLLIE; ADD PHYSICALITY TO THE OUTSIDE

The season concluded just a few days ago, but the Nipissing Lakers men’s volleyball team is already looking towards a bigger and better campaign next year.

The Lakers are excited and proud to announce the signing of outside hitter, Dylan Wyllie.

Wyllie is making his way to the Lakers after wrapping up his career with the Ottawa Fusion 18U Boys High Performance team.

“I am thrilled to be joining the Lakers Volleyball Team and look forward to being on campus in the fall,” he said. “I chose Nipissing because of smaller class size, great undergrad reputation and because of the smaller campus.”

On the court, Wyllie has earned some hardware with his club team.

During the 2022-23 season his Ottawa Fusion 18U team finished fourth in provincials in the premier division. They then went to Nationals and won gold in Division 1 Tier 2.

Wyllie was awarded the AJ Jackson Volleyball Leadership award in 2022 and academic honors in technology, as well at Holy Trinity Catholic High School.

Enrolling in Biology or BPHE at Nipissing, the Ottawa, ON product believes his on-court skills will be a nice addition to a strong up-and-coming program who have already made big strides this season.

“I am a devoted player, always striving to play my best. I am the type of player who likes to play fast and aggressively,” he stated. “I have a good work ethic and try to make the best of each point. One of my strengths is being adaptable and being able to play right and left side as well as middle blocker.”

Lakers head coach Eric Yung likes what Wyllie can bring to the court and notes the newcomer can fill a void on the roster.

“We are happy to announce the commitment of Ottawa athlete, Dylan Wyllie. Dylan’s physicality on the pins compliments our needs as we continue to build around our young core,” Yung said. “We are excited to work along Dylan as he continues to grow on and off the court.”

Regardless of where he fits in or the role he’s asked to play, Wyllie is excited about the next chapter in his volleyball career and looks forward to hitting the court at the Robert J. Surtees Athletic Centre, as well as experiencing everything Nipissing has to offer.

“I would like to improve on my game so I can help the team and be a good teammate, while also doing well academically and adapting to the university lifestyle,” he said.
