The Nipissing Lakers men’s volleyball team has secured a calming presence who will add a variety of abilities to the roster.

The Lakers are excited and proud to announce the signing of outside hitter, Mitchell Winser, who will join the program for the 2024-25 OUA season.

Winser joins the Lakers after a successful final season of club volleyball, playing for the Halton Hurricanes Category 18.

The Georgetown, ON product is looking forward to making the jump to the next level and suiting up for Nipissing.

“I am extremely excited to Join the Lakers program and can’t wait to get to work,” he said. “An expectation I have for myself heading into my freshman year is really focusing on working out and becoming better physically.”

Enrolling in the Bachelor of Arts and Education programs at Nipissing, Winser believes his style on the court and his demeanour during matches will help him adjust and help the team succeed.

“I would say a strength that I have as a player is staying calm in the moments where it is most needed,” he explained.

Winser was named co-captain during his 18U season with the Hurricanes and was a member of the provincial champions a year prior.

Lakers head coach Eric Yung likes what Winser has to offer and believes his experience and attitude will translate well with the program.

“We are excited to be adding Mitch to our roster for the upcoming season. We know he will complement our culture well,” Yung said. “Mitch comes from a volleyball family and brings a high level of skill along with his leadership abilities to the court. We look forward to being apart of his development over his new few years.”

Along with the volleyball side of things, Winser likes what Nipissing has to offer as a post-secondary institution.

“I was drawn to Nipissing because of its environment of being a smaller school as well as having concurrent education available,” he stated.
