MEN’S VOLLEYBALL: LAKERS ADD HALTON ALL-STAR RIGHT SIDE, WITH ADDITION OF GILL

The Nipissing Lakers men’s volleyball team is hitting the court with a young team this year, building towards a bright future.

The current roster is gaining experience this season and now the program has added another building block for the future.

The Lakers are excited and proud to announce the signing of outside hitter, Jimmy Gill, who will join the program for the 2024-25 OUA season.

“I’m very excited to be a Laker next year. As a player with ambitious goals, Nipissing is the perfect fit for me because of their own ambitious and competitive nature,” Gill said.

A product of Grimsby, Ontario, Gill will be enrolling in the BPHE program when he begins classes next year at Nipissing.

Gill believes joining Nipissing and the Lakers is a perfect fit for him both academically and athletically.

“The sense of community I got from the team and coaching staff was one of the many reasons I chose Nipissing. I also believe in the development process and I think that this team will be a big competitor in the OUA and USports,” he explained.

Lakers head coach Eric Yung is planning on his team growing together and learning what it takes to win over the next few years as a group and Gill will be a part of that growth and progress.

“We are thrilled to be welcoming Jimmy and his family to our program. He is a dynamic athlete who will make immediate impact to our training and competitive environment,” Yung said. “Jimmy fits right in with our young core and will complement our culture extremely well. I look forward to helping Jimmy reach his athletic and career goals.”

Gill has been a part of the Team Ontario indoor program for the last two years, including the Team Ontario Elite program this year.

His club team, the Halton Hurricanes, are defending provincial champions and last season, Gill was named an all-star right side.

“I’m a player that always brings the energy and competitive drive to win. I always aim to be the loudest on the court and that is reflected in my aggressive play style and my ability to score,” explained of his playing style. “I expect the team to compete to their fullest and give their all in every single game and in training in order to achieve our goals and I hold myself to the same expectations as well.”
