MEN’S VOLLEYBALL: LAKERS ADD CCAA CHAMPION WITH ADDITON OF RINGMA

As the Nipissing Lakers men’s volleyball team continues to make strides, they continue to attract some impressive talent and their latest recruit is a perfect example of that.

The Lakers are excited and proud to welcome their newest addition, as they have signed Jacob Ringma ahead of the 2022-23 OUA season.

Ringma joins the Lakers coming off a national championship with the Camosun Chargers of the PACWEST/CCAA.

The left side, who is originally from Terrace, BC, will bring a winning pedigree with him and also the right attitude to make the jump from the college level to USports.

“I’m super pumped, as I have always had the goal of playing at the USport level and I can confidently say I have put in the work to get to this point and be blessed with this opportunity,” he said.

Bringing an impressive resume with him, Ringma believes his skill-set and abilities will help the program continue to find success.

“I would describe myself as a high jumping, athletic, but undersized player. I also have a good amount of strength and muscle to make up for my lack of height,” Ringma explained. “I think I have a good mind for the sport, and love the process of working to achieve winning.”

Ringma stands at 6-foot-2 and will be enrolling in the BPHE program when school begins in the fall.

He is coming off a pair of championships – winning both provincial and national goal this past season, which saw him named to the PACWEST All-Rookie team as well as provincial tournament all-star.

He also won a national championship with Team BC in 2019, where he suited up for three years.

With so much success in the past few seasons, Ringma will look to bring his experience to the Lakers and for head coach Eric Yung, that should prove very valuable.

“We are excited to add Jacob to our program after an incredibly successful rookie season with Camosun College. He will bring championship pedigree and winning mentality to the program,” Yung noted. “From our conversations, I know he is ready to put in the work and challenge everyone on the court and in the weight room. We look forward to seeing him in blue and green in the fall.”

With high expectations of himself and the team, Ringma is excited about the challenge and opportunity ahead of him.

“As always, I expect myself to put in the work asked of me and more. I look forward to embracing a new role and doing my best to help the team win, no matter what the role is,” he said. “As a team, I expect to build on this past season, to come together and grind to claim an OUA title and even a national title.

“I know Nipissing is on the rise, establishing themselves as a force to respect in the OUA and I want to be a part of that,” Ringma added.
