MEN’S VOLLEYBALL GRAB SECOND WIN OF THE WEEKEND

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men’s volleyball team defeated the Trent Excalibur 3-2 on Saturday (Feb. 3) afternoon in Peterborough, Ont.
 
Set scores in the match were 25-27, 25-23, 25-27, 25-22, 15-8.
 
Reaching five sets for the second night in a row, the Blues and Excalibur battled back-and-forth, but the Blues capitalized on Trent’s 32 attacking errors to come out on top. On the offensive end, the Toronto and Trent were quite close, with Toronto finishing 59 kills compared to Trent’s 61, while both teams recorded 59 assists. 
 
The Blues were led by outside hitter Hunter Arulpragasam who finished the match with 25 points after recording 25 kills. Just behind him was fellow outside Hitter Jayden Talsma who had 20 kills and one solo block for 21 points. Setter Davis Young directed the Blues offense with 52 assists, while, leading Toronto’s defense was libero Rylan Armstrong with 7 digs.
 
Trent’s Charlie Winser finished the game with a team-high 21.5 points with 18 kills, three service aces and one block assist.
 
The Blues will return to the court on Friday (Feb. 9) to battle the TMU Bold. First serve is set for 8 p.m. All the action can also be caught online via oua.tv.
