LIONS SET FOR BACK-TO-BACK AGAINST WARRIORS

Opening the 2024 portion of their season at home, the York University Lions women’s volleyball team re-matched the Gryphons and Blues at home, falling short in both games. Battling for their second win of the year, the Lions are heading to Waterloo to face the Waterloo Warriors on Friday and Saturday.

Friday evening the Lions faces the Gryphons, a team they met just before heading into the winter break, and hopeful to be on the winning end this time around. The Lions started the game strong taking the first two sets going up 2-0 on the Gryphons, but Guelph’s offence battled back to swiftly take the following two sets. All tied 2-2, York and Guelph were back-and-forth in the fifth set until Guelph got ahead and won 15-12. 

Another re-match on Saturday evening, the Lions faced the Varsity Blues. Their last meet up was Dec. 3, favouring Toronto 3-2, this time York was in hopes of a different outcome. The Lions took the first set, but the Varsity Blues tightened up and won the next three to defeat York 3-1. Amarai Endes led the Lions with 11 kills while Jessica Reynolds tallied 15 digs.

#10 AMARAI ENDES: Third-year middle… Her 37 sets played is tied for third most in the OUA, where she has tallied 67 kills and 137 total attacks… Her 16 block assists is third in the conference, 30 block total is fourth and 14 block solo is fifth in the OUA… Coming up big for the Lions defensively, offensively, she tied a seasons high 11 kills on Jan. 6 against Toronto where she recorded 12.5 points and 19 total attacks… Her efforts from the weekend earned her York Female Athlete of the Week for the period ending Jan. 7.

#13 JESSICA REYNOLDS: Fourth-year outside hitter… In her 37 sets played, tied for third most in the OUA, she has 19 assists and 144 receptions… Her 120 digs is second in the OUA, averaging 3.24 digs per set… She had a seasons high 33 total attacks on Nov. 4 against Brock where she earned one kill.
