LIONS ON ROAD FOR WEEKEND AGAINST LANCERS

On a four-game winning streak, the York University Lions women’s volleyball team work to continue their winning ways on the road against the Windsor Lancers.

Taking their talents to the road, the Lions played the RMC Paladins on the road on Friday and Saturday evenings. Amarai Endes started the game strong helping her team secure the first set 25-12. The Paladins pushed back to take the second set after a tightly contested set, and the game was tied 1-1. Finding their groove again in the third, Megan McDonald aided in the teams success with 31 assists on the night, while Alisa Trubyuk and Brooklyn Parliament helped the Lions to a 25-15 set victory. Back to a tight back-and-forth set, Madison Shanks came up big to earn the victory for the night 3-1.

All prepared for a rematch on Saturday, the game played out similarly to the night before. After securing an 11-5 lead, the Lions continued their charge to take a 25-16 set one win. The Paladins hung on in the second set, and pushed the game into extra points but York stood tall to take a 2-0 lead. With a late push back to send the game into extra sets, the Paladins worked their way and slightly edged out York 25-13, getting the game 2-1. Down early in the fourth the Lions pushed back to before the game was all tied at 11. RMC took an 18-13 lead, but York was right back in it and finished the game on a 12-2 point run, to win 25-20.

#15 MADISON SHANKS: Third-year outside hitter… In 12 matches and 36 sets, she is 26th in the OUA with a .182 hitting percentage and 2.25 kills per set, while recording 275 total attacks, 170 digs and 89.0 points… In the Lions 3-1 victory over RMC on Feb. 3, she recorded 10 kills on 36 total attacks for a .139 hitting percentage and tallied 10 points.

#13 JESSICA REYNOLDS: Fourth-year outside hitter… Playing in 17 matches and 66 sets, she is 17th in the OUA with 254 receptions, while sitting in second with 219 digs, averaging 3.32 digs per set, best for fourth in the OUA… With 37 assists, she hit her seasons high five assists and 24 digs on Jan. 27 against Trent in the Lions 3-1 win.
