LIONS KEEP WINNING, EARN SECOND STRAIGHT VICTORY OVER RAMS

The York University Lions women’s volleyball team continued to roll through the competition Saturday night on the road, sweeping away the Rams 3-0 in their second win in as many days.

It was their second straight straight-sets win over their cross-town rivals.

The win moves their record to 6-1 on the season, giving them sole possession of first in the OUA East and a tie for first overall in the conference.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After a tight first set where the Lions came out victorious, the second and third set were all York.
  • The second set, ending in a 25-11 win for York, with nine straight points to go up 15-5 and six of them coming from rookie Alisa Trubyuk.
  • York was up 23-12 in the third and final set before the Rams attempted to force a fourth set, but the Lions would end the set and the match on an Olivia Kim kill, with the winning set coming on a 25-18 score.

NOTABLE NUMBERS

Kim and Trubyuk led the way offensively for York with 16 and seven points respectively.
Trubyuk had another notable night in other offensive categories as well. She led the team with seven digs and three service aces.

LOOKING AHEAD

The Lions will try to continue winning ways against the Trent Excalbur on home court, playing Feb. 18 at 5:30 pm at Tait McKenzie Centre.
