LIONS DROP HARD-FOUGHT FIVE SET MARATHON TO WESTERN

It was the Western Mustangs who came out on top of a back-and-forth contest at the Tait McKenzie Centre Friday night, downing the York University Lions women’s volleyball team in a five-set marathon, 3-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Although York claimed the first set by a comfortable scoreline of 25-20, they lost out the next two by a close margin of 25-23. The Lions then triumphed on the fourth set by 25-20 but was narrowly beaten on the fifth and final set.
  • Christina Piccinin and Jessica Reynolds both had a leading 12 kills in what was an impressive showing from the Lions’ outside hitters.
  • Olivia Kim also produced an excellent display with 10 kills, 1 assist and 1 ace.
  • Quincy Johnson, who made her first home appearance as a starter this season also recorded 10 kills on her outing.

The Lions will now regroup and return to the court Saturday evening, when they face off against Western again. The match is set to begin at 8 pm.
