KAMLOOPS, B.C. – The UBC Okanagan Heat men’s volleyball team swept the Thompson Rivers WolfPack on Friday night, taking each set 25-23 in the President’s Cup matchup on the road.
Despite the three-set victory for the Heat, the ‘Pack kept the pressure on, forcing the Heat to battle each set to the very end. All night it would be close back-and-forth action with each team trading small leads, with neither team able to increase the gap any larger than six points. Ultimately, TRU would battle each set down to the wire but would not be able to stop the Heat sweep.
Hailing from Langley, B.C., Max Heppell was once again a crucial aspect to the Heat victory, leading the visiting squad in their winning efforts by putting up a total of 13 kills and four digs towards his 14 point performance on the night. Cameron Vanderveen of Abbotsford, B.C., would finish close behind in points, adding nine kills, one service ace, and two digs for a total of 10.5 points.

For the home squad, Melbourne, Australia product Anton Napolitano contributed 10 kills and seven digs in the losing effort. Thundersky Walkingbear (Thunderchild, Sask.) would also be a key contributor for the ‘Pack, adding six kills, four service aces, and four digs on the night.
With the win, the Heat increase their record to 3-0 on the season, while the WolfPack fall to 0-3 so far in Canada West action.
While UBCO still trails the ‘Pack in the men’s President’s Cup action, tonight’s sweep means the Heat trail by just a single win, sitting at 1-2-1 against their Interior rivals.
The two teams will be back in Kamloops on Saturday at 3:45 p.m. for more President’s Cup competition. All action can be watched live on CanadaWest.tv presented by Co-op.
