Cameron Gayleard named MCAC men’s volleyball player of the year

Cameron Gayleard’s presence is felt almost as much as his absence.
When he’s on, the Canadian Mennonite University Blazers are too. When the veteran left side was injured, it led to the team’s only loss of the regular season.
By near unanimous decision, Gayleard is the MCAC men’s volleyball player of the year.
“Cam is the complete package. Excellent attacker, has all the shots, good passer, server and blocker,” said CMU coach Don Dulder.
“Besides the obvious on-court talents, he performs extremely well in the classroom, earning all-Canadian academic honours.
“Cam exemplifies class. He is an outstanding character guy. It’s all about the team with Cam, ‘Whatever is best for the team’ is his motto.”
Gayleard led the league in aces per set with .62 and finished fourth with 2.71 kills per set. He suffered an ankle injury in the first game of the second semester and hasn’t played since.
The Blazers play the Université de Saint-Boniface Les Rouges in the semifinals on Saturday at 4 p.m.
The Providence University College Pilots and Assiniboine Community College Cougars meet in the other semifinal at 6 p.m.
The final is on Sunday at 3 p.m.

Noah Boschman – Providence
Brayden Griffith – CMU
Markus Martens – CMU
