WATERLOO, Ont. – The TMU Bold women’s volleyball team made the ultimate comeback last night against the Waterloo Warriors and on Saturday they hoped to finish off the weekend with two wins.
Last night, the Bold were down two sets and then showed the Warriors what they were made of, winning the last three sets of the night.
Sarah Zoneveld brought back the same energy and banked a few service aces to begin Saturday’s game.
The Bold started the first set strong, leaving the Warriors scoreless for the first few minutes of the game.
The main hurdle in last night’s game was some serve and attack errors, so tonight, the goal was to avoid that as much as possible.
Mary Rioflorido came up clutch, tallying 17 digs in total.
The Bold secured the first set with a score of 25-15 and went into the second set with the same intentions.
Scarlett Gingera played two great games this weekend and was consistent on both sides of the ball, racking up the kills and digs.
The Warriors game started to tear down as the Bold zoomed past them on the scoreboard.
Captain Ashley Ditchfield also put up some great numbers this weekend, especially Saturday racking up nine kills.
The Warriors depended on many timeouts to regroup, but it wasn’t enough to outdo the Bold.
The second set was very active on both sides and unlike the first, it was a much closer score, ending in 25-23 for the visitors.
The Bold headed into the third set with one intention, a full sweep against the Warriors.
The veteran Julia Gordon was quick and helpful all over the court today, picking up 16 kills, and continued to be a strong asset to this team.
Near the end of the third, the Bold fell just short of reaching the three-set sweep with a score of 22-25.
Going into the fourth the Bold had the same energy, starting strong, and the Warriors trailed behind.
The Bold have been working on being more defensive but tonight they were in attack mode, heavily outscoring the Warriors.
Both of these teams have proven over the last two days that they can make some great plays, but in the end, it was about who can finish.
The Bold left the Warriors hanging behind as almost every player on the lineup had racked up kills and points.
With a score of 24-14, a kill from Gingera gave the Bold the match point to take home the win.
The Bold are heading home after an exciting weekend, and now prepare for a rescheduled game against Western this Wednesday.
