Bold challenge No. 3 ranked Badgers, fall in four sets

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. – The TMU Bold women’s volleyball team took on the Brock Badgers on Friday night  and it was a close fight but in the end, the Badgers came out on top.

In the early goings of the game the Bold fell behind, but a quick shift in strategies and the Bold shined through the first set.

Lauren Veltman racked up 13 kills, the most of the night.

A few serve errors initially made it difficult for the Bold to take this set, but it was close with a score of 25-21 for the Badgers.

In the second set, the Bold took the lead and the Badgers were trailing behind. Britney Veltman kept the play alive multiple times for the Bold, she had no issue denying any chances for the Badgers. It was another successful night for the Veltman sisters as they took control in the first and second sets.

Mikayla Sherriffs had an exceptional night, making this one of her best games of the season, and keeping the team afloat throughout the second set.

In the second, the Bold led most of the game, and first-years Kaiya Krahn and Tyra Krapp showed off their serving skills. The visitors tied the match after winning the second 25-18.

The Bold racked up a total of 37 kills against the Badgers and went back and forth but in the third set, it wasn’t enough.

Into the fourth, the Bold had to secure a win to stay alive. Both teams fought back and forth, looking to have a slight edge, and in the final minutes of the fourth, the Badgers mounted a comeback to overtake the Bold and close the match 3-1.

The Bold and Badgers will meet again on Saturday with the visitors looking for redemption starting at 4:00 p.m.
