The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women’s volleyball team downed the Windsor Lancers 3-2 (25-20, 22-25, 18-25, 25-22, 15-9) on Friday, January 20 at the Toldo Lancer Centre in Windsor, Ont.
TORONTO STATS: Outside hitter Julia Murmann recorded a season-high 25.5 points off of 21 kills, three assisted blocks, two solo blocks and an ace.
Fourth-year outside hitter Hope Kotun rounded out the Blues scoring efforts. The Sherwood Park, Alta. native totaled 18.5 points, good for the second-highest scoring total of the game. Kotun had 16 kills and two aces, while adding 13 digs.
Fourth-year setter Jasmine Safar totaled a game-high 22 assists and added 16 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED: As evenly matched as it gets, the Blues and Lancers were a not-to-be-missed OUA showdown.
The Blues started strong, battling down an early Windsor lead to take the first set 25-20. Despite both teams trading the lead three times through the second set, a late push from the Lancers saw the team from Windsor take the set 25-18.
Carrying their momentum into the third, the Lancers were able to secure 2-1 lead by claiming the set by a score of 25-22. The Blues immediately answered back taking the fourth set 25-22 to force a fifth.
Dominating throughout the fifth set, the Blues completed their comeback by besting the Lancers 15-9.
UP NEXT: The Blues return to action tomorrow Saturday, January 22 on the road vs. the Windsor Lancers. First serve is set for 2:00 p.m.
