After playing and excelling in Ontario, Ancaster’s Chelsea Siebenga will be making the move west this fall, as she becomes the latest member of Bisons women’s volleyball’s 2022-23 recruitment class.
Siebenga, 17, is a 6’0″ outside hitter who brings size to Manitoba’s youthful attack after playing high school volleyball with Hamilton District Christian High. In club, she last played for the Mountain Volleyball Club and was the captain of the Ancaster Lions Volleyball Club (ALVC) for five seasons in the Ontario Volleyball Association (OVA).
During her OVA years, Siebenga was selected for the Award of Excellence in 2018 and 2019.
“I’m thrilled to continue my education and volleyball career at UM,” said Siebenga in a statement. “It’s been a dream of mine to play at the U SPORTS level and I’m excited to grow as a player under Coach Bentley. I think this team has a great future and I can’t wait to be a part of it.”
Bentley is excited at the prospect of Siebenga’s play, as she joins a squad that won its last three regular season games in 2021-22 while boasting a roster entirely made up of athletes in their third year of eligibility or earlier.
“Chelsea has worked hard to develop her game,” said Bentley, who will enter his 37th year as the head coach of Bisons women’s volleyball in 2022-23.
“She’s an excellent athlete with a game worthy of our level in Canada West. She brings very strong net play to our team and will make us better. We’re very excited to have Chelsea join us for the 2022 season and beyond.”
In the classroom, Siebenga has been outstanding. She was a double honours student in grade 11 and was on the honour roll in both her grade nine and ten years.
