Badgers make it back-to-back wins versus No. 9 Gaels

ST. CATHARINES – Picking up right where they left off the night before, the Brock Badgers men’s volleyball team earned another stunning victory over the No. 9 nationally ranked Queen’s Gaels, this time in a five set thriller. Set scores for the match were 23-25, 25-21, 19-25, 26-24, 15-12.

On the court the two teams couldn’t have been any more even statistically, as the Badgers produced 59 kills to the Gaels 53, while Queen’s out-blocked Brock 8-5, and both teams registered six service aces.

The difference came down to the Badgers ability to spread the ball as third-year setter Grant Reddon guided the Brock offence with 53 total assists, while setting up his teammates to see four Badgers achieve double-digit points in the win. Reddon now has eight matches with 40 or more assists this season, and is on a roll with 50-plus assists in five of the last six games played.

First-year outside hitter Devin Cooney proved to be the primary target scoring a team-high 19 points from 15 kills, three service aces, and two block assists through five sets played. Fellow outside hitter Sauli Lianga added 12 points courtesy 11 kills and one ace, while KJ Robinson checked into three sets during the match to add 11 points from 10 kills and a solo block. Standout middle Jacob Ferland rounded out the Badgers double-digit outings with 10 points.

For the second consecutive match, Queen’s Erik Sisna led the Gaels with a game-high 24 points, registering 20 kills, two aces, one solo block, and two block assists.
