The York University Lions women’s volleyball team continued their four-game road trip as they travelled to Windsor for a face-off against the Windsor Lancers in the first a back-to-back. The Lions entered the game looking for a fourth consecutive victory to keep their faint postseason hopes alive
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Madison Shanks scored the first three York points of the night, all on kills, helping level the score at 3-3 through six points. After Victoria Herrington gave York’s a 6-5 lead, the Lancers surged ahead with an 8-3 run to take a 13-9 lead.. Despite a timeout, the Lancers maintained their momentum, extending their lead to 13-9. The Lions got it back to within one late in the set at 22-21, but eventually droped the opening set 25-22.
- Amarai Endes ignited York’s offence in the second with their first kill of the set, complemented by contributions from Herrington and Ella Rohani, propelling York to a 6-4 lead. After Windsor went up 9-7, the Lions scored four of the next five points, capped off by kills from Endes and Shanks, and nudged ahead 11-10. However, the Lancers responded promptly, regaining the lead, 17-13. While York once again showed strong fortitude, they couldn’t muster that final sustained run to draw back even, and fell by an identical 25-22 score.
- Shanks initiated the scoring again in the third for the Lions with an opening kill. Points for Endes and Herrington brought 4-3 in favour of the guests, but another 8-3 spurt by the Lancers made it 11-7 Windsor. The Lions eventually trailed 19-12 midway through the set, but found some life out of a timeout .Kills by Shanks and Herrington, and an ace from Herrington, reduced the deficit to 19-16. However, that was as close as the Lions would get, as they dropped the third 25-21, and the match 3-0.
