Badgers spilt weekend exhibition slate

The Brock Badgers split their two home exhibition games on Saturday (Oct 21.) and Sunday (Oct 22.), taking on the Guelph Gryphons and Toronto Varsity Blues. 

Game 1: Brock 2 Guelph 3 (25-21, 25-21, 22-25, 20-25, 8-15) 

The Badgers got their weekend started with a close five-set loss to the Gryphons. 

Brock got the match started with wins in the first and second sets with identical scores of 25-21. The Badgers used strong attacking with 30 total kills. In the first set, the Badgers had a .500 hitting percentage. 

The Gryphons took the next three sets and the match, including the fifth set with a score of 15-8. After strong attacking early on in the match, the Badgers were only able to notch three kills in the final set. 

Third-year outside hitter Kylar Code led the Brock Badgers with 17 kills in the game. The Badgers leader in assists was Grant Reddon with 43, which was a game-high for either side. Senior Sauli Lianga was the Badgers’ leader in digs with ten. 

Game 2: Brock 3 Toronto 2 (21-24, 25-16, 25-15, 25-27, 15-13) 

In their second game, the Badgers picked up the win in five sets against the Toronto Varsity Blues.

Toronto took the first set of the game 25-21. A better second set from the Badgers saw them earn 11 kills and win the set 25-16.  

The Badgers followed up the third set with yet another 11 kills and a hitting percentage of .600. The powerful performance gave Brock the 25-15 set win.  

Toronto fought back with a fourth set win (27-25) to send the game into a fifth and final set.  

In a close final affair, the Badgers came out on top, taking the fifth set by a score of 15-13 to win the game against the Varsity Blues. 

Sophomore KJ Robinson featured as the Badgers’ kill leader with 13 in the game, which was also a game high. Reddon once again finished with the most assists for the Badgers, recording 37 in the win.The Beamsville, Ont product Justin Rulli-Levere led the Badgers in digs with seven. 

Up next, the Brock Badgers continue their exhibition schedule as they visit the Toronto Varsity Blues on Saturday (Oct. 28) at 4 p.m.
