CALGARY – Recent University of Calgary graduate Tomas Sorra will continue his volleyball career after signing a professional contract with UVC Ried in the town of Ried im Innkreis, Austria.
Sorra played a vital role on this past season’s Dino men’s volleyball squad that went all the way to the U SPORTS bronze-medal match. He competed in all 28 matches on the year, making 26 starts, racking up 845 total assists along the way. Sorra also tallied 157 digs on the season – third most on the team – to go with 53 blocks, 29 kills and 15 service aces.
“We are very excited to see Tom obtain a pro contract in Austria,” Dinos head coach Rod Durrant said. “Tom has worked hard to get this opportunity to go overseas to play the sport he loves. His Dino teammates and coaches wish him all the best.”
The Toronto native was big in the Dinos playoff run last season. In postseason games alone, Sorra averaged nearly 10 assists/set. He also added a pair of double-doubles, headlined by a season-high 14-dig performance in the final game of his Dinos career.
In four years on the court for the Scarlet and Gold, Sorra amassed an impressive 1,805 total assists, 324 digs, 97 blocks and 63 kills.
