SASKATOON, SK – Welcoming the Thompson Rivers WolfPack to the Physical Activity Complex on Friday night, the Saskatchewan Huskies looked to add another win to their 3-1 record. The WolfPack rallied in a big way to take the victory in five sets (25-23, 20-25, 14-25, 25-19, 15-6).
It was a back and forth battle for most of the first set, with neither team able to take the lead for long. Back to back kills by Saskatchewan’s Keely Anderson would tie the set at 19-19 before TRU’s Brooklyn Olfert responding with two kills of her own. Service errors on both sides of the ball evened the score yet again before a kill from Ema Palkovicova would give the WolfPack the edge and the 25-23 set win.
The Huskies responded in a big way in the second set, with six unanswered points and the 9-3 lead. Saskatchewan would continue to push throughout the set, leading 23-15. Palkovicova would shine for the WolfPack, with three massive kills to close the gap for TRU. The Huskies would not relent, winning the second set 25-20.
TRU jumped out early with an 8-5 lead in the third set before five unanswered points from the Huskies gave them the 10-8 lead. The Huskies capitalized on a number of TRU errors in the set the WolfPack were unable to battle back from. A 25-14 Huskies win gave them the 2-1 set lead heading into the fourth.
A 10-10 tie started the fourth set before five points from TRU put them ahead 15-10. Back and forth went the rest of the set, with the WolfPack continuing to be aggressive at the net. A late rally from the Huskies would bring them within two points at 19-21, but they were unable to overcome the WolfPack, who forced a fifth set with a 25-19 win.
The Huskies were overpowered by the WolfPack in the fifth set, and while they were able to put some points on the board, TRU’s Olfert was sharp, with six kills in the set to propel the WolfPack to a 15-6 set win.
Leading the way for the Huskies was Keely Anderson with 21 kills, seven digs, and one solo block. Setter Sophia Magus had 29 assists and nine digs for the Huskies.
TRU’s Brooklyn Olfert had a phenomenal game with 19 kills and eight digs. She was joined by Ema Palkovicova with 14 kills, and two aces. Hadley Schmidt and Libby Meldrum split setting duties, with 22 and 21 assists respectively.
