Women’s Volleyball:
The Mount Royal Cougars women’s volleyball team traveled to Edmonton to play the MacEwan Griffins this weekend, winning 3-0 (26-24, 25-16, 25-21) on Friday and 3-0 (25-19, 29-27, 25-22) on Saturday. Following the back-to-back wins, the women claimed the 3rd spot on the U SPORTS Top 10 list.
Nyadholi Thokbuom was unstoppable Friday night in the middle earning 13 kills, while Sarah McKillican had 13 digs. Emma Boyd was the leader on Saturday night, earning 12 kills and 2 blocks. Boyd was set up by Quinn Pelland who added 33 assists to the board.
The women will play the University of Calgary Dinos this weekend in the Canada West quarter-finals. The games will be played on February 24 at 8 p.m., February 25 at 5 p.m. and 26 at 3 p.m. if needed. Get your tickets here or watch all the action live on Canada West TV.
Men’s Volleyball:
The Mount Royal Cougars men’s volleyball team beat the MacEwan Griffins this weekend, 3-0 on Friday (25-22, 29-27, 27-25) and 3-0 on Saturday (25-23, 25-20, 25-19) on the road. The wins extended their record to 19-5, clinched them 2nd in the Canada West Division, and earned them 4th on the U SPORTS Top 10 list.
Chris Byam had 18 kills on Friday night, while Jacob van Geel added 10 digs and Luis Lange had 3 blocks. Athlete of the week, Max Haronga had 12 kills and 9 digs Saturday night as well, with Cody Boulding protecting the middle with 4 blocks.
The Cougars will play the University of Calgary Dinos in the Canada West quarter-finals. The games will all be played on Kenyon Court starting at 6 p.m. Friday, 7 p.m. Saturday and 5 p.m. Sunday if needed. Purchase tickets in advance here or watch the game live on Canada West TV.
