The University of Alberta Pandas women’s volleyball team exacted their revenge against the Mount Royal Cougars on Saturday night at Kenyon Court by executing a 3-0 sweep (10-25, 18-25, 21-25).
The Pandas set the tone early in the first set as they scored seven unanswered points before the Cougars could get their first. Jessica Osczevski tried her best to carry the offense with her kills while Bronwynn Davies-Neira did her best to uphold some defensive integrity, but it wouldn’t be enough as the Pandas pummeled the Cougars 25-10.
The Cougars opened the second set with more energy thanks to Mya Morgan’s blocking ability, but their sloppy hitting technique ended up being their kryptonite as they made a series of service and kill errors. The Pandas looked much sharper in longer rallies than they did on Friday night and this helped them secure a 25-18 set win.
The third set was the closest of the night, as the two sides opened with a 6-6 tie. The Cougars broke the set open with a 7-2 run. The Pandas responded with a 13-3 run that gave them a big lead, and even as the Cougars played with desperation and brought themselves to within two points, it was too little too late as the University of Alberta would take the set 25-21 and the game 3-0.
Jessica Osczevski took home Player of the Game honours for her incredible offensive output.
The Cougars travel to Winnipeg next week as they face off against the University of Manitoba Bisons on Nov. 10 at 6:00 P.M. MST.
