CALGARY, ALTA.Madison Marshall and Nyadholi Thokbuom each finished with 10 kills while Haley Roe added nine as Mount Royal swept Brock, 3-0 (25-20, 25-14, 21), in Friday’s opening quarter-final match at the 2022 U SPORTS Women’s Volleyball Championship at the Jack Simpson Gym.

Marshall added six digs, two aces and one block to go with her 10 kills on the day and teammate Quinn Pelland dished out a game-high 29 assists for the Cougars, while Aleiah Torres notched a match-high 11 digs to go with two aces and Sara Rohr had 26 assists in the loss for the Badgers.

“I really went after it tonight and tried to do anything I could to get the ball through the block,” Marshall said. “The team definitely helped me and Quinn set us up with good offence and really took care of the service line and passing as well.”

In front of a friendly home-town crowd, Mount Royal finished hitting .305 for the match and kept Brock off balance all afternoon, limiting them to hit just .101.

With the win, the Cougars are the first team to claim a spot in the semi-finals, where they will take on the winner of No. 3 Alberta/No. 6 Dalhousie at 6 p.m. Saturday, while the Badgers will face the loser of that Pandas/Tigers opener at 1 p.m. Saturday.

“Ahead of tomorrow’s game, we’d like to clean up our service errors and we took a little bit to get used to the gym tonight, but we’re excited to work on those things in our game tomorrow,” Marshall said.
