WINNIPEG — The Manitoba Bisons hit .250 as a team, and had 14 assisted blocks as they swept Regina 3-0 (25-15, 27-25, 25-17) on Friday night at Investors Group Athletic Centre.
Middle Brenna Bedosky was the team’s Player of the Game after recording eight kills, four blocks and two aces while Raya Surinx led the team with 13 kills. Bedosky’s attacking percentage was incredible, at .727 on 11 attacks, while fellow middle Eve Catojo hit .676 with six kills on nine attacks. Julia Arnold added 11digs and setter Katreena Bentley had 31 assists.
Manitoba opened a 9-8 game wide open in the first, scoring five points in a row to take full control and the set win. Surinx had two kills during the run, while Catojo and Ella Gray had a key assisted block. Bedosky and Surinx combined for all of the Bisons’ final five points, including three aces from Surinx.
The second set was a thriller, going to extra points. Manitoba led by six multiple times, and had set point three times starting at 24-21, but three straight kills from Jordy McEachern tied the game. She added another, but her side also recorded three errors, handing the second to Manitoba. The Cougars hit .261 in the second, while Manitoba hit .361, their most efficient of all three sets.
Manitoba opened up a six point lead in the third and didn’t look back. Gray ended the game with her second kill of the set, while Catojo added two late to bring things home. Light Uchechukwu also had five kills in the set, finishing with six overall.
Both teams play again tomorrow at 2 pm.
