Women’s volleyball team continues to dominate as they put away Guelph

GUELPH, Ont. – Yesterday’s win against the Guelph Gryphons was followed by a rematch today for the women’s volleyball team. They repeated the result, winning swiftly in 3 sets. The women continue to blaze through the season and can now take a well-deserved break for the holidays.

The first set went just how the Marauders wanted. They led the entire time and although there were plenty of long rallies, the team stayed focused throughout, winning the set 25-19. Guelph started off strong in the second set, shaking off their disappointing start, which was very similar to how last night’s game went. The Marauders, however, quickly tied it up with a scoring run of their own and closed it out 25-22. By the end of the second set, outside hitter Sullie Sundara already had 9 kills and 3 aces, while first year middle Jenna Woock had 4 kills and 2 aces.

McMaster started off the third set behind again. Libero Christina Stratford did a great job fighting to keep the ball up and eventually, the Marauders had a comeback. It was a tight set right up until the end. McMaster pulled through to win it 25-23, taking a 3-set victory as they did last night. The team played with confidence, which was especially impressive given the amount of first year players that were on today. McMaster also showed off the depth of their roster with yet another starting setter, Lauryn Colpitts, who had 26 assists. Outside hitters Sullie Sundara (10 kills and 5 aces) and Olivia Julien (9 kills and 6 digs) played superbly again.

The women should be satisfied heading into the holiday break, as they now hold a season record of 7-1. Looking forward, they will take part in the Alberta Pandas Tournament from December 28-30 in Edmonton, competing against teams from around the nation.
