Women’s volleyball star signs professional contract with FC Porto

Sara Rohr is headed to Portugal to continue her volleyball career.

After five sensational seasons with the Brock Badgers women’s volleyball team, Rohr will take her talents to FC Porto of the First Division Women’s Volleyball League in Portugal in an announcement made official by the team on Thursday, July 18.

“I am thrilled to sign my first professional volleyball contract with FC Porto,” Rohr said. “This opportunity wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible support from my teammates, coaches and Brock University. I’m looking forward to growing as a player and contributing to the team’s success.”

Rohr signed a 10-month contract that starts in August with the Porto-based club.

“I am super happy and proud of the work she has put in,” said Brock women’s volleyball head coach Steve Delaney.” It wasn’t easy, and she has had some challenges along the way, but it’s a great example for all the athletes that come after her that they can follow in her footsteps.”

It was a final season to remember for Rohr as she earned numerous individual accolades, including being named the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Female Athlete of the Year, the Brock Badgers Female Athlete of the Year and the OUA Women’s Volleyball Co-Player of the Year. In addition, the Milton, Ont product also took home an OUA First Team All-Star selection for the third time in her career.

Beginning in the 2021-22 season, Rohr took over as the starting setter for the Badgers. Under Rohr’s leadership, the team won three consecutive provincial titles, qualifying for nationals in each of those seasons.

Rohr finished her Brock career with a program-record 2,677 assists, which was highlighted by passing Ally Fast’s previous record of 2,474 on Feb. 16 against the Waterloo Warriors.

During the past three regular seasons, Rohr has either led or finished second in the province in assists per set. In addition, she placed first in the country in assists per set this past year and ranked third among all U SPORTS setters in 2021-22.

Rohr heads to an FC Porto team that has had a four-year run of dominance in the First Division Women’s Volleyball league, winning four consecutive national championships. FC Porto won their most recent title by defeating PV Colégio Efanor 3-2 in a five-match series.
