After a thrilling comeback win Friday night, the Nipissing Lakers women’s volleyball team was looking to make it a perfect weekend when they hit the court Saturday afternoon.
The Lakers once again hosted the Lakehead Thunderwolves, as both teams close out their weekend of OUA action.
It didn’t have the dramatics that Friday night did, but it did see the Lakers pick up a win, sweeping the Thunderwolves 3-0 to make it two wins in a row.
After a strong start, the Lakers controlled the opening set, grabbing an early 9-4 lead and cruising to a 25-14 win to go up 1-0.
In the second, the Thunderwolves had control and led for the majority of the set and looked like they were on their way to tying things up.
Nipissing trailed by three, 21-18, late, but stormed back and outlast Lakehead to grab the set, 28-26 and go up 2-0.
After a big comeback in the second set, the Lakers carried that momentum into the third game and completed the sweep.
They led 21-16 late and cruised to a 25-20 win.
Oceane Raymond-Leduc led the Lakers offence with 16 kills, Paige Owen added 10 and Anna Marie Horvat had nine in the victory.
The Lakers remain at home next weekend, hosting the Western Mustangs both Friday and Saturday.
