Box Score Into the final two weekends, the Nipissing Lakers women’s volleyball team was looking to make their move in the OUA standings.
With the likelihood of a playoff spot secured, the Lakers, with wins in their final four matches and some help, could rocket up the rankings and into a more favourable matchup in the post-season.
In the first of two matches versus the RMC Paladins on the weekend, the Lakers picked up a straight sets sweep, winning 3-0 Saturday afternoon.
It wasn’t the start the Lakers envisioned, as they trailed 9-6 early on in the first set.
They bounced back and climbed back into the match, going ahead 17-15 midway through the opening game.
Up 23-21 late, the Lakers put the set away, winning 25-22.
In the second, it was a dominant effort by Nipissing to go up 2-0.
An early 6-1 lead for Nipissing turned into a 17-2 advantage as the Lakers cruised to a 25-11 win and took a stranglehold on the match, leading 2-0.
In the third, the Lakers led 9-5 early, as they looked to take care of business.
Nipissing expanded their lead to 17-10 midway through the set and didn’t look back, claiming a 25-13 win and the sweep.
Amy Connelly led the Lakers with eight kills, while Oceane Raymond-Leduc added six in the victory.
The same teams wrap up the weekend Sunday, hitting the court at noon at the Robert J. Surtees Athletic Centre.
