Box Score With back-to-back home matches against the Lakehead Thunderwolves, the Nipissing Lakers women’s volleyball team was hoping to make it a weekend sweep.
The Lakers topped the T’Wolves in four sets Friday night and on Saturday, did the exact same thing, in the same fashion
After losing the first set, Nipissing won three straight to take the match.
The Lakers are now 3-1 after their weekend sweep of Lakehead.
Like Friday night, the Lakers got off to a slow start and Lakehead took advantage early on.
With the score tied 7-7, the Thunderwolves went on a 9-5 run to grab a 16-12 lead at the midway point of the set.
They extended their lead to seven points, leading 21-14 late before securing the 25-17 win to open up the match.
In the second set, the Lakers bounced back, just as they did Friday night.
Nipissing jumped out to a commanding 7-2 lead and pushed that to an advantage of 17-8 midway through the set.
They didn’t let Lakehead into the second game, keeping a big cushion.
A late 22-11 lead translated into a 25-12 win in the set, evening up the match 1-1.
Nipissing kept the pressure on and continued to dictate the play, as they came out strong and led for most of the third set.
They pulled ahead 15-9 midway through the set and held on at the end, winning 25-21 to go up 2-1 in the match.
In the fourth, the teams played even early on, sitting tied 9-9 and 12-12 shortly after.
The Lakers pulled away, grabbing a slight 19-18 lead late in the set before pulling away to claim the 25-21 victory and take the match 3-1.
Oceane Raymond once again led the Lakers attack with 13 kills, Paige Owen had 12 and Amy Connelly posted 11 in the win.
The Lakers hit the road to close out the semester, heading to Hamilton to face McMaster next weekend before wrapping things up in Waterloo for a pair of matches in early December.
