Box Score 1 The Nipissing Lakers women’s volleyball team has themselves positioned for the playoffs and a weekend split helped their cause.

The Lakers dropped a 3-0 decision to a strong Queen’s Gaels team Saturday in Kingston, before defeating the RMC Paladins 3-1 Sunday to close out the weekend.

Thanks to the 1-1 road trip, the Lakers are now 6-2 with three matches left on the schedule, including Saturday’s home finale.

On Saturday, the Lakers fought hard, but the Gaels were too much, claiming the victory.

The Gaels took the first set 25-18, won the second game 25-16 and closed out the match with a 25-19 win in the third and final set.

Shayla Kessler led the way offensively with six points, while Shaelyn Francis and Kristine Ledger each chipped in with 3.5

The teams split the first two sets, with the Lakers taking Game 1 25-18, while the Paladins answered and won the second set 25-15.

Nipissing finished strong, however, winning 25-17 and 25-18 in the third and fourth set to eventually take the match, earning their sixth win of the season.
