WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL: LAKERS DROP SECOND STRAIGHT MATCH TO MCMASTER

Box Score Coming off a tough loss Friday night, the Nipissing Lakers women’s volleyball team was looking to bounce back Saturday afternoon.

Closing out the weekend against the McMaster Marauders, who won their first matchup of the weekend, Nipissing was hoping to flip the script.

A repeat of Friday night saw the Lakers fall in straight sets, 3-0, to McMaster to close out the weekend.

The first set didn’t start the way the Lakers wanted, despite battling back early on.

Down by a handful, Nipissing battled back to close the gap to 9-6, but that’s as close as they would get throughout the opening game.

McMaster stayed comfortably ahead, leading 22-12 before claiming the win, 25-16.

In the second, the Lakers kept McMaster in check and trailed by just one early on, down 10-9.

Overall, they continued to keep pace and found themselves down just two, 14-12, heading towards the middle of the set.

McMaster began to pull away late, up 20-17 as they look to go up 2-0 in the match.

While Nipissing did manage to outscore McMaster 7-6 to end the second set, the Marauders have built enough of a lead to come away with a tight 26-24 win and go up 2-0 in the match.

The third set, unfortunately was much of the same for the Lakers, who fought to stay in the match, but came up short.

Down 13-8 early, Nipissing fell behind 18-11, eventually falling in the third set, 25-13 and dropping the match 3-0.

Paige Owen had a strong match for the Lakers, posting 13 kills to lead the offence.

Nipissing remains at home, hosting the Brock Badgers next weekend for a pair of matches.

Match times are set for Friday at 6pm and Saturday at 4pm, both at the Robert J. Surtees Athletic Centre.
