Box Score Coming off a grueling schedule to end the first semester and start the second, the Nipissing Lakers women’s volleyball team was looking for a big weekend at home.
Hosting the Trent Excalibur, the Lakers were ready to get back into the win column.
A clean, dominant and complete effort led the Lakers to a 3-0 sweep of the Excalibur to pick up their fourth win of the season.
Nipissing jumped out to a strong start and used an early lead to cruise to a victory in the first set.
The Lakers grabbed a 7-3 lead and led by five points, 15-10 midway through the opening set.
From there, they went on an 8-2 run to take a strangle hold of the set and they picked up a 25-13 win to go up 1-0.
The Lakers once again jumped out to a quick advantage, leading 7-1 early in the second set.
They continued their early dominance, going up 15-6 midway through the set.
The teams traded points before the Lakers hit the 20-point mark and led 21-14.
From there, Nipissing sealed the win, taking the second set 25-17.
Up 2-0 in the third, Nipissing started slower than the first two sets, trailing 6-4 before tying things up.
After training by two, Nipissing went on a 7-2 run to regain their form and grab the lead early in the third set.
From there, Nipissing built up a 19-10 advantage and cruised to the 25-17 win in the third set.
A complete, dominant effort gave the Lakers the sweep.
Oceane Raymond had a big match, posting 15 kills and 17 points, while Amy Connelly had 11 kills and 12 points and Rebecca Illingworth added 10 points in the #Lakers victory.
The same teams close out the weekend Saturday afternoon, as they hit the court at the Robert J. Surtees Athletic Centre once again.
Match time is set for 4pm.
