Box Score Coming off a pair of tough losses to one of the OUA’s top teams last weekend, the Nipissing Lakers women’s volleyball team was back on home court this weekend.
Hosting another top team, the Lakers welcomed the Brock Badgers to North Bay for a pair of matches, Friday and Saturday.
Despite a strong effort and competing well with the nationally ranked Badgers, the Lakers came up short, losing 3-0.
In the opening set, Brock jumped out to an early lead and held it for much of the set, keeping the Lakers at a distance throughout the game.
After being up 12-7 early on, the Badgers won the first game 25-18.
In what turned out to be the middle set, Nipissing came out strong, as the teams were tied early on.
The Lakers grabbed the advantage, up 13-12, as they put together a few nice runs to look to even the match up after dropping the first set.
Unfortunately, the Badgers stormed back, outscoring Nipissing 13-4 down the stretch to pick up a 25-17 win.
The Lakers left it all out on the court in the third set, controlling much of the set, but the Badgers used their experience to stick around before putting together a few late runs for the win.
Nipissing held a lead of 16-14 midway through the set and 21-20 late, but were unable to put the Badgers away, as Brock stormed back to grab a 27-25 win.
Thanks to the third set comeback, the Badgers finished with a straight sets victory.
Oceane Raymond-Leduc led the Lakers attack with 11 kills, while Paige Owen had eight in the match.
The Lakers and Badgers are back at it again Saturday afternoon, hitting the court at 4pm at the Robert J. Surtees Athletic Centre.
