WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL: LAKERS BATTLE BADGERS, BUT FALL IN FOUR SETS

Box Score For the Nipissing Lakers women’s volleyball team, it was an improved effort, but not a positive result, unfortunately.

The Lakers put together three strong sets, but fell 3-0 to one of the OUA’s top teams, as the Brock Badgers claimed the win Friday night.

The same two teams were at it Saturday afternoon and while the Lakers put together another strong match, they came up short, losing 3-1.

In the opening set, the Lakers hung around until the 20-point mark and that’s where Brock took over.

Nipissing trailed 9-8 and 17-15 early on and midway through the set, but were unable to keep pace with the Badgers, as Brock pulled away and took the opening game 25-16.

Brock jumped out to an early lead in the second, going up 10-5 and extending that advantage to 15-11 midway through the set.

From there, they gained a 19-13 lead on the Lakers and finished things off, winning 25-14 to go up 2-0 in the match.

In the third, down but not out, the Lakers grabbed an early 12-8 lead and pushed their advantage to 19-14 late in the game.

Nipissing held on to extend the match, winning 25-17 in the third set.

In the fourth, Brock finished things off, leading 16-10 midway through before closing things out, winning 25-20.

Oceane Raymond-Leduc led the Lakers with 10 kills, Jaden Germann added eight and Paige Owen and Anna Marie Horvat each had seven in the match.

Nipissing hits the road next weekend, travelling to Thunder Bay for a pair of matches against the Lakehead Thunderwolves.
