Women’s volleyball extends winning streak to four games

The Warriors women’s volleyball team continued their hot start to the delayed 2022 restart with two more victories over Windsor and McMaster extending their win streak to four. With the wins, Waterloo improved to 6-3 on the season, good for a tie with McMaster for second overall in the OUA west.

On Saturday in Windsor, the Warriors used a well balanced attack to sweep the Lancers in straight sets. Leftside hitter Sarah Glynn (Fredricton, NB/) was solid with a game high 12.5 points on nine kills, three service aces, and one block while middle hitter Lauren Hebert (Burlington, ON/) was just as good with 11.5 points on seven kills, two aces, and five blocks.

Adding to the Warriors attack was Mackenzie Vallee (Waterdown, ON/) and Abbey Neufeld (Battleford, SK/) who put down eight and six kills respectively. Katrine Eistrat (Toronto, ON/) finished with 36 assists while Vallee led all players defensively with 11 digs.

It was a quick turn around for the Warriors on Sunday having to travel to Hamilton on Sunday to face the stingy McMaster Marauders. After taking the first two sets 25-18, 25-22, McMaster bounced back winning the third and fourth to force a fifth and deciding set. Waterloo regained their focus and took it to the Marauders in the fifth, claiming it in convincing fashion 15-4 to earn a crucial 3-2 victory. As a team Waterloo had an incredible .600 hitting percentage in the final set, coming up clutch when they needed it.

Glynn was strong once again adding to her league lead in kills with 17 while Vallee put down nine kills while again playing strong defence with 18 digs. Jenna Gravina (Burlington, ON/) also played sound defence making timely digs, finishing the game with 16. At the net, Hebert stood tall for a second straight game with six blocks while Vallee had four. Setting the Warriors up all game long was Eistrat who collected 38 assists giving her an OUA leading 334 on the season.

Waterloo will be back in action for their final regular season home game on Wednesday against the 9-0 Brock Badgers. It will be Senior Night as the Warriors honours their seven graduating seniors. Game time is at 6pm and can be seen live on OUA.tv.
