Windsor defeats Lakehead in straight sets

In their first of a weekend double header, the women’s volleyball team swept the visiting Lakehead Thunderwolves 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-12) Friday night at the Dennis Fairall Fieldhouse.
 
STATS
Yaila Sealy had a strong game for Windsor with 13 kills, three aces, six digs, and 16 points. Aryn Markett also had a solid game with 11 kills, two aces, five digs, and 13.5 points. Defensively, Emma Shepherd had a game high 13 digs.
 
Lauryn Langley led the visitors with nine kills.
 
GAME FLOW
Windsor took an early 8-3 lead in the first set and continued to control the floor throughout the set. With the hosts up 13-6, Lakehead called a time out to regroup and it worked as they came back into the game and went on a 11-4 run to bring the game within four. However, the Lancer offense was strong and two kills from Paige Phills led to a 25-17 win for Windsor.
 
In the second, Lakehead came out strong to lead 8-1. The Lancers battled back to within two at 11-9, forcing a Thunderwolves timeout. Tied at 14 all, the two squads traded points until Emma De Souza got to the service line with the game tied at 19. The combination of De Souza serves and Sealy attacks separated the blue and gold, and three straight serves from Brooke Davis secured the win for Windsor.
 
The final set saw the hosts go up early and never look back. The visitors looked tired midway through the set and the Lancers used that to their advantage to take the set 25-12 and the game in three.
 
UP NEXT
Windsor and Lakehead will take to the court again Saturday afternoon at 1:00pm at the Dennis Fairall Fieldhouse. Prior to the game, the Lancers will honour their graduating seniors Jenny Campbell, Brooke Davis, Joey Hewick, and Paige Phills.
