WINNIPEG – Isaiah Olfert added to his record-breaking season on the service line and the Wesmen men’s volleyball team rallied back to beat the Calgary Dinos 3-1 (20-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-17) in a Canada West conference match Friday night at the Duckworth Centre.
The Wesmen improved to 10-2 inside their home gym and now sport a 14-9 conference record following their third straight win and sixth in the past eight matches. That mark has them sitting precariously in fourth place in the conference, but with two fewer games in hand to the rest of the conference.
The Wesmen need a win in their conference finale on Saturday and then hope for a wide range of results in other matches this weekend and next to stay in that fourth spot.
Austin Ellchuck and Louis Kunstmann both had 11 kills for the Dinos, who were officially eliminated from the postseason with the loss that sent them to 7-14 on the season.
Ben Traa posted 26 assists as well as three kills on three swings in taking over at setter in the win for Winnipeg.
Olfert led the way with 16 kills and five aces, bringing his total to 44 on the season as he continues to set the Wesmen Canada West-era record for aces in a season. He now has 11 in his past three matches.
Liam Kristjanson chipped in with 10 kills, Jaxon Rose had nine with a match-high seven digs, and Paxton Koop also had nine kills along with a solo block, three block assists and a .500 attacking.
Winnipeg will close out its regular season Saturday with the rematch against Calgary at 4 p.m. MT.
