Waterloo sweeps weekend series with 3-1 win

WATERLOO, Ont. – The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold men’s volleyball squad was unable to harness the momentum from their opening set win on Saturday, dropping their final three sets to the Waterloo Warriors in a 3-1 defeat (25-21, 22-25, 19-25, 19-25).

After failing to win a set in Friday’s 3-0 loss to the Warriors, the Bold appeared to have solved their opponent in the opening frame. Led by Jacob Walker’s five kill performance, the Bold rallied past Waterloo to take a 25-21 set win and open up Saturday’s contest on a high.

Although catapulting the Bold into the lead, TMU’s early success only fueled into the hands of the Warriors attack – that although slow to get going in the contest – roared to life in the second set.

Waterloo’s three lane attack of Liam MacArthur, Noel Campfens and Lucas Redmann overwhelmed the Bold in the second frame, combining for 11 of their 13 kills to tightrope their way to a victory.

The Warriors three-headed monster continued to overwhelm the Bold in the sets to come, rarely letting the visitors get within striking distance en route to their weekend sweep.

TMU will look to regain their form next weekend in their final two home games of the regular season. Both contests on Friday and Saturday will match the Bold up against the University of Toronto Varsity Blues as playoff implications begin to present themselves for the blue and gold.

First serve from the MAC flies at 8:00 p.m on Friday.
