Warriors season comes to end in hard fought playoff battle with Badgers

The Warriors women’s volleyball team put two incredibly hard fought sets together against the undefeated Brock Badgers in the OUA quarter-finals on Saturday afternoon but just ran out of steam in the end to lose in straight sets.

Brock won the first two sets by tight scores of 25-20, 25-21 before winning the third 25-16.

Brock finsihed with a .262 kill percentage in the match compared to .150 for the Warriors.

Leading the Warriors attack was Karen Fan (Oakville, ON/) who put away 10 kills while adding three assisted blocks for 11.5 points in the match. Sarah Glynn (Fredricton, NB/) added seven kills while Lauren Hebert (Burlington, ON/) put away six. At the net, Grace Crooks (Ottawa, ON/) was strong, leading the way with four blocks. Setting up the Warriors attack was Alex Sinik (Calgary, AB/) who finished with 27 assists in the match. Defensively Waterloo was led by Fan and Mackenzie Vallee (Waterdown, ON/) who each collected seven digs.

Leading the way for the Badgers was Madison Chimienti and Laurin Ainsworth who each finished with 11 kills in the win. Brock will now battle the Western Mustangs in the OUA semifinals with a berth to the Quigley Cup Final on the line.
