The Warriors got their new year off to a strong start, defeating the Guelph Gryphons in five sets on the road, the second time they have done so this year. After taking the first two sets 25-17, 25-23, Guelph bounced back with two close set victories (24-26, 23-25) to send the match to a fifth and deciding set. The black and gold jumped out to 6-2 lead and never looked back, winning the set 15-8, and match 3-2.
Sarah Glynn (Fredericton, NB) picked up where she left off in 2022, with another massive game, earning 25 points on 23 kills, one ace, and one block. She also added 14 digs in the win. Avery Kelly (Calgary AB/) was the next highest scorer with 19 points on 14 kills, two aces, and one block while Abbey Neufeld (Battleford, SK/) rounded out Waterloo’s attack with 17 points. Defensively, Kelly and Nora Kotun (Sherwood Park, AB/) were on their toes with 22 and 17 digs respectively.
The win pushes Waterloo’s record to 9-2 on the season good for third spot in the OUA standings. They will be back in action this weekend with a pair of home games against the RMC Paladins; Friday night at 6pm and Saturday afternoon at 4pm. Both games can be seen live on OUA.tv.
