Warriors men’s volleyball got the New Year off to a great start with back-to-back straight set victories over RMC to improve to 2-8 on the season.
On Friday night, Waterloo took out the Paladins by set scores of 25-18, 25-15, 15-13 for their first win of the season. Liam MacArthur (Cambridge, ON/) led the way with 12 points on 10 kills, two blocks, and one service ace. Noel Campfens (Toronto, On/) and Ben Newell (Brussels, ON/) were also strong in the win each with nine points. At the net, Fehin Awobodu (Oakville, ON/) was stellar with a game high four blocks. Setting up the Warriors attack was Logan Wenzel (Salt Spring Island, BC/) who finished with 31 points in the win.
On Saturday, Waterloo made quick work of the Paladins once again with set scores of 25-9, 25-20, 25-12. For the second straight night, Newell was strong on offence with a game high 13 points thanks to 11 kills and four blocks. Awobodu was one his game once again with 11.5 points thanks to another strong performance at the net earning seven blocks. Campfens and Siraj Khanna (Surrey, BC/) rounded out Waterloo’s attack each with 6.5 points. Wenzel added another 29 assists in the victory.
Waterloo will look to make it three straight wins when they travel to Hamilton midweek to battle the McMaster Marauders on Wednesday night at 8pm. They will then return to the PAC to face Guelph on Saturday at 8pm.
