Warriors Battle Gryphons but Fall After Three Sets

The Warriors made their season debut tonight, taking on the Guelph Gryphons in a competitive road matchup. Building on last year’s balanced 10-10 record, the Warriors entered with determination and experience. However, despite stellar team play, they conceded in three sets.

Offensively, the Warriors were led by Liam MacArthur (Cambridge), who delivered a standout performance with 14 kills, while the team’s remaining key stats were well-balanced across multiple players.

In the first set, Guelph came out strong, quickly jumping to a 10-3 lead. However, the Warriors showed resilience, responding with a three point run to close the gap to 10-6. Despite this push, Guelph answered back, taking the next four points to regain control. The Warriors fought back with another three point streak, but it wasn’t enough, as the Gryphons held on to win the set 25-18. The second set saw much tighter play, with both teams trading points in a tense back and forth. Although the Warriors kept pace and intensified their defense, Guelph took a 25-22 win, but it was clear that the Warriors were there to compete. In the third set, the Gryphons reasserted their momentum, maintaining high offensive pressure and ultimately securing the set 25-18, closing out the match.

The Warriors will regroup and aim for redemption as they prepare for a rematch against the Gryphons tomorrow evening.
