The PACWEST is pleased to announce the volleyball Athletes of the Week following an exciting championship tournament this past weekend.
Female Volleyball Athlete of the Week
Linnea Brickwood – VIU Mariners
She was the Top Setter during the regular season and carried over her exceptional play during the PACWEST championship tournament. She was outstanding running the offence of the Mariners quarterbacking them to their first Conference title since 2020. With several weapons on the floor, she kept them balanced and ultimately kept the opposition guessing. She also collected 21 digs and five blocks defensively and added three kills of her own. She was named the championship MVP and will look to continue her outstanding play at the CCAA national championship tournament in two weeks.
Male Volleyball Athlete of the Week
Lucas Torres – VIU Mariners
He we absolutely brilliant during the PACWEST championship this past weekend and was named the tournament MVP. His ability to attack the ball at the net helped the Mariners to their first gold medal since 2019 and earned his club a berth into the CCAA national championship. He tallied 33 kills over the course of both matches including getting the gold medal winning kill in the fifth set against Douglas. He was also dominate from the service line and recorded nine aces.
